    End of Summer

^Everytime I hear this song, I long to change the lyrics too, "...but everybody want to go now..."  I also cringe when I hear this song. The theology is just so wrong.^

The last time I posted it was the beginning of summer and now it is the end of the summer. It has been a crazy couple of months! Lets see if I can recount the past few months, in a bulleted list if you may…

    • Spent the Fourth of July weekend in Nashville…shocker, I know! Had a wonderful cook out with the Dartt family. We were able to grill out this time, unlike Memorial Day when we resorted to Taco Bell. There’s just something about burgers and brats that make potato salad taste that much better.
    • Went downtown Nashville for fireworks. They were pretty spectacular; although, I think it would have been even cooler to have been close enough to hear the symphony play the sound track. The only drawback of the evening was it took us two hours to get out of downtown afterwards. As soon as we got back to the parking garage, the heavens opened and it poured rain forever. There’s just something about rain and merging with traffic people struggle with.
    • Helped Cass unpack the majority of her moving boxes. I set up her kitchen and hooked up all her electronic equipment. I guess I'm cheaper than the geek squad!
    • Showed off my culinary skills by making this for the four of us. For dessert, I made chocolate fondue. Move over Rachel Ray!
    • Played in a corn hole tournament with my friend Kim. Her boss has a tournament every year to raise money for the Autism Foundation, as he has a son with autism. I thought it was a great cause and happily agreed to participate. Unfortunately, I’d never played corn hole before! Yeah, we lost in the first round, 21-19 though! We went on to the losers bracket and got our butts kicked. I did score more points than Kim though!
    • Went back to Maine to see the family for a week and attend my 10 year high school reunion. Only a handful of my classmates attended, which was disappointing. Even people who live in the area didn’t show. I did get to reunite with a friend I’d been close to while growing up. After graduating, she left our town and turned her back on God. It was heartbreaking to see, but I continue to pray she will hear God calling her back to Himself.
    • I think I won the award for most changed. Several people didn’t know who I was. What do you think?  I'm not sure if it's the glasses, hair, make-up or the 40 pounds I've lost since high school.  Aren't you suppose to get better with age, like wine?!  Haha!

Here's a picture of those at the reunion and a pic of me and my best friend.

    • In preparation for the reunion, I dug out my senior yearbook and flipped through. I came a crossed a listing of activities I was involved in during senior year…Concert Band, Pep Band, Marching Band, Band President (yeah, I was a band geek!), National Honor Society, Yearbook, Newspaper…good grief..add in all the church youth group activities, did I ever sleep?!
    • I also found my speech I gave at our Class Night. I remembered how scared I was at getting up in front of all those people and giving a speech. At the top of the first page I’d written in big, bold letters, “SLOW DOWN!” Story of my life!!
    • I ended my speech with my favorite quote by Sir Winston Churchill, “Now, this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
    • I’ve been wanting to dye my hair dark for a while now. So, before I went home for vacation, I made an appointment with Jordan and went dark. Here’s a pic from when I returned from the salon. Pardon the t-shirt, all my “real” clothes were already packed. Cass was appalled with my choice of attire. I told her to get over it!

    • Spent a Saturday afternoon and evening unloading two moving trucks and spending time with Gretchen and her family. I made dinner for everyone, nine adults and five children. That’s 14 people! The menu: meatball subs, homemade macaroni and cheese, baked beans, salad, cheesecake brownies, and rice krispie treats.
    • Had a short visit with the guys last week as they were on their way through from Missouri to New England. I hadn’t seen them since July 4th, so it was nice to see them, even for a couple hours!
    • Had an AWANA leaders meeting last week. It’s getting that time of year again. I’m getting super excited to see the kids again.
    • Spent this weekend redoing my bathroom. I painted and am contemplating putting in new flooring. I have to figure out if that is something I can do myself or have to hire someone. I’m also looking to put hardwood floors in the downstairs area, in the kitchen and the living room/dining area. That project is going to get hired out! Here’s the results from my laboring Labor Day weekend…

A few things I’m looking forward to in the next month…

    • Spending the weekend in Louisville in two weeks for the NQC! The group is singing all week on several stages! Very exciting!!
    • Having the group here in the area the following weekend, as they’re singing in several churches in the Akron area. Maybe another Longaberger trip?!
    • A Women’s Retreat weekend at church. Kim is planning the majority of the even, and I’ve been told I have been assigned several jobs!

Finally, a few pics just because...

    Geesh!

Has it really been almost two months since my last post?  My goodness, how time flies.  The last time I looked at a calendar it was April and now it's almost the fourth of July.  Time seemed to drag when I was a child.  Now, I seem to be screeching a crossed the road of life in a stock car, going about 200 mph.  Sometimes, I even feel like I'm going in circles!    Let me see if I can remember what has happened since my last post.

    • Finished my first year of AWANA.  I'm lost on Monday nights now.
    • Turned another year older.  3-0 is getting too close...
    • I took the afternoon of my birthday off and traveled to the Outlets in Jeffersonville.  I did some shopping and found a couple great deals here
    • After my shopping spree, I headed further south to spend the weekend with Cass and the guys in Nashville.  It's becoming my second home.
    • I was treated to a fabulous birthday dinner here and then went and saw this.  It was a wonderful evening.
    • Cass moved at the beginning of June, so I helped her pack while I was there.  Boy, does she a have a lot of "stuff!"
    • Sat in the studio with the boys as Beej's new album was getting finalized.  It was so cool!  They're both so talented.  When they asked for our opinion after every song, I just shook my head and said it was great!  What the heck do I know?!  I only have half a music minor!!    It should be released by the middle of July.
    • Had a "peeps" night with some gals from church.  It was cool to get together and talk.  Most of the gals are or were just pregnant, so you can imagine what the evenings topic of conversation was!  I'm rethinking the whole "having" kids thing...
    • Was chosen to be the manager for this audit.  I can't go into details or say much because of the nature of our investigation.  This has been the main reason for my hiatus from the blogging world.  That, on top of my regular schedule of audits and learning to audit a new accounting system the state implemented back in July is wearing me out.  I'm trying not to loose my mind.  My poor staff...
    • When I couldn't figure something out at work last week, I snapped my fingers in frustration.  My intern immediately turns to me and snickers, "No one snaps anymore."  Stunned, I quickly came back with, "I know, I'm trying to bring it back."  We had a good laugh.
    • Had one of my staff quit and the other manager from our team resign, all on the same day.  The next day, we found out that our offices Chief Auditor was also leaving.  It's really been rough at work lately.
    • Made $63.35 at my yard sale a couple weekends ago!  I really didn't think I would do that good.  I got rid of some clothes, purses (to pay for the new coaches! haha!) my microwave from college, and other odds and ends.  I was pleased.
    • ^Watched the above movie last weekend.  I was very disappointed.  The only redeeming quality was the shirtless McConaughey!  ^
    • Traveling to Nashville again on Thursday for the 4th!  I think my car can drive there by itself.
    • Heading back to Maine to visit from August 6 through the 12th.  My 10 year high school reunion is on August 9th.  There are a couple people I'm excited to see.  I think I'm more excited for seafood!  Dad's already putting in the "lobsta" order with the guys on the boat.  Nothing like fresh lobster.  I can't wait...

Lately, I've realized that I can not wait around for someone to take me some where or do something for me.  So, I take myself to the movies or walk/shop around the mall by myself.  It's taken me a few years, but I've slowly become content in my "aloneness" here in this city again.  Today, was such a day.  Thursday, on my way to work, Ipulled up behind an SUV at a red light.  As I approached the vehicle in front of me, I noticed something wasn't right.  I could see the reflection of my headlights in the bumper of the SUV and one of my headlights wasn't on.  "Crap," I thought.  "How am I going to fix this?"  I casually mentioned this to my staff at work and they assured me that it wasn't difficult and I could change it myself.  So, I went to the auto parts store this afternoon and picked up a bulb.  The guy at the counter again assured me that it wasn't hard, and I could change it myself.  It seems everyone has a lot of confidence in me!!  I dug the car's manual out of the glove box, popped the hood, and went to it.  After twenty minutes, several choice words, and grease up to my elbows, I believe I have changed my first headlight!  Now, the question remains, "Does it work?"

Today is the day I've looked forward to since January!  Not only does every tax paying American need to either file a tax return or an extension by midnight tonight, but it is a day when friends, family, and audit clients stop asking me for tax advise!!   Even though I have an accounting degree, I do not enjoy taxes.  That's why I'm an auditor!  I did succomb to answering several questions this year and even prepared both my sisters federal and state tax returns since she resided in two states last year and could deduct moving expenses.  For the state of Maine, she had to fill out two worksheets, a 1040 state long form and a supplemental schedule for nonresidents.  Good grief, I was confused at one point!  No wonder people get frustrated.  I must say that I took her from owing the feds $152 to getting a refund of $6!  She can now buy a Venti Nonfat Raspberry White Chocolate Mocha Latte at Starbucks!

    Since my last posting:

    • Saw the 15+ inches of snow melt in about a week
    • Enjoyed a wonderful Easter at church.  I invited a couple foreign students from OSU over to my house for Easter dinner.  I put a pork roast in the crock pot, with green bean casserole, mashed potatoes for sides, homemade rolls, and chocolate chip cheesecake for dessert.  I left the cheesecake in the oven a little too long because it cracked down the center while it was cooling.  I'm still learning to perfect those!  Since this was their first Easter in the states, I made them Easter baskets.

    • Had an Easter egg hunt at AWANA.  Here's a couple of my girls...

    DSC00661 DSC00660

    • Traveled to Nashville to visit Cass at the beginning of April for four days.  Beej was in town to record his third album.  Stoney helped out with the production of the album and even did back up for three of the songs.  It should "drop" sometime in June.  If anyone would like a copy, just let me know!
    • While in Nashville, we celebrated Sto's 30th birthday.  Beej made reservations at the Ristorante Volare here.  We then went here.   We saw Mark Wills, Terri Clark, Tim Hensley and Emerson Drive.  I also learned that Tim Hensley is produced by non other than Mr. Kenny Chesney.  I learned this because he made a surprise appearance and sang with Tim.  When Kenny came out on stage, all the girls in the floor seat rushed the stage.  We were in the front row of the first balcony.  I contemplated scaling the balcony and jumping on stage with Kenny, but figured I'd behave like a lady, at least for one night!

    • Sto really wanted this for a birthday present, so we all chipped in an bought him the 16GB one.  He got so excited when he opened it.  He went straight to his room after the show and set it up.
    • Since I won't see everyone on my birthday, I got a few gifts early!  Beej got me a lovely black pants suit from here.  Sto got me my favorite gift of all, this and several games!!  I just pretend the target is my unreasonable clients and unruly staff!  He knew I needed a stress reliever!
    • Watched Memphis totally blow up my bracket in the final 2 minutes and the 5 minutes of OT of the Championship Game.  I had Kansas and Memphis as my final two, with Memphis winning.  Calipari is off my Christmas card list.
    • In the last three weeks, I've reviewed two complete major programs (which includes 14 sections per program), besides answering staff and client questions and planning another new audit.  Crunch time is almost over.
    • Received my 10 year high school reunion information for this summer in the mail.  I'm having a hard time with that.  Ten years...that's double digits!
    • Enjoyed seeing my Red Sox on my TV the past few days.  It's not often I get to see them unless when they're playing the Indians or a team that's broadcasted nationally.
    • Saw Sweeny Todd a few weeks ago.  I laughed during most of it.  I'm not sure what that means or says about me.
    • Lexi was playing in the clean laundry the other day and got stuck in my bra.  She was running all over the living room trying to get it off.  The more she ran, the more it got stuck.  Finally, she stopped running and I got to take a picture.  This is the only time my bra will be on the internet!  Just for you dad, to put your mind at ease!!

March comes in like a lion...

So, I sure hope it goes out like a lamb!  What a crazy few days it has been.  The first snow storm began around 9:30 on Friday morning.  By the time it was time to leave work, we had accumulated about 3 inches of snow.   What is normally a 15 to 20 minute commute home turned into over an hour.  Once I did arrive home, I hunkered down for what was predicted to be 15 more inches.  And that is exactly what we got!  The airport reported a record 20 inches in the last two days!  I went out yesterday afternoon and started to clean up the sidewalks and around the car.  The storm hadn't totally finished, so I returned this morning and finished what was left and even shoveled out my neighbor lady.  That's what Jesus would have done!

With all this snow and no where to go, I ended up getting a lot accomplished this weekend.  Here's an infamous bullated list of my accomplishments:

    • Four loads of laundry
    • Cleaned the spare room in order to make room for the treadmill coming next week
    • Shoveled snow
    • Vacuumed the house
    • Cleaned the refrigerator
    • Shoveled snow
    • Cleaned the bathroom
    • Shoveled snow
    • Studied my lesson for this weeks Ladies Bible Study
    • Set all the clocks in the house ahead one hour
    • Watched Duke loose again to UNC on Senior Night (Tyler H is really getting on my nerves!)
    • Shoveled snow
    • Took pictures of said shoveled snow
    • Made my famous Corn Chowder (my ultimate comfort food!)
    • Wrapped and boxed for mailing Dad's birthday gift
    • Watched movies - American Gangster, Rendition, No Reservations, Gone Baby Gone
    • Updated all my blogging sites with the said pictures taken of said shoveled snow
